Intrinsically, a disgusting cull.

A Y & Discovery.
Several mass deaths of dolphins have occurred over the past few years and while experts are worried about the die-off they say we are not witnessing a global population crash. But what is behind the recent mass standing’s and deaths is complicated and inevitably involves humans. For example the bottle-nose dolphin die-off in Gulf of Mexico started in early 2010, this was even before BP's massive oil spill in April 2010. Disease was linked to some of the hundreds of Gulf dolphin deaths, but not all of them. By nursing these ill dolphins into recovery and then transporting them to a cost, the Irish cost seem to be a perfect location with its shallow water on its west coast along the North Atlantic drift knowen as the "Gulf Stream" of warmer water. It makes this the perfect habitat for bottle nosed dolphin. It is probably gas toxins in the Sea that are causing these mass deaths. Book Club hopes companies like British Petroleum would show a little sympathy towards the worlds marine mammals’ as it could be grate asset. Their is hope that a cure can be found but the ultimate cause of Dolphin Death remains a serious mysterious as it could be just starvation. "There is no evidence at this time to indicate that such a worldwide, multi-species crash is occurring," Randall Wells, director of the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program said. “The large-scale mortality events and mass stranding that have made the news in the past two years appear to be unrelated.”Nonetheless, the past two years have been rough for several species of dolphins, but not all of the nearly 40 species of dolphins are in hot water.
A Y NEWS: thousands of Dolphins are dying in gulf waters these dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico are in the midst of a massive die-off. The reasons why remain a complicated and mysterious mix of oil, bacteria and the unknown. Normally an average of 74 dolphins are stranded on the northern shore of the Gulf of Mexico each year, especially during the spring birthing season. But between February 2010 and April 1, 2012, 714 dolphins and other cetaceans have been reported as washed up on the coast from the Louisiana/Texas border through Franklin County, Fla., reported the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Ninety-five percent of the mammals were dead. Since many of the dead dolphins sink, decompose or are eaten by scavengers before washing up, NOAA believes that 714 may represent only a fraction of the actual death count. NOAA declared the die-off an “Unusual Mortality Event” as per the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972.Although the timing of the die-off largely coincides with BP's Deep water Horizon oil spill and its aftermath, the deaths actually started increasing about two months before the April 20, 2010, explosion, which started the months long oil spill. Before the spill, 112 dolphins had already been reported stranded on the shore. In the summer of 2011, NOAA tested 32 live dolphins in Barataria Bay, an area heavily impacted by the oil spill. The dolphins were underweight, anaemic, and had low blood sugar and/or some symptoms of liver and lung disease. Nearly half had abnormally low levels of hormones that help with stress response, metabolism and immune function. The symptoms are consistent with those seen in animals exposed to oil. Whale, Dolphin Deaths in Gulf Spill is Underestimated But the mystery remains as to why the dolphins started dying before the spill. One possible culprit is Brucella Bacteria. Since an initial find of five infected dolphins, NOAA has found an additional 11 infected dolphins washed up on the Gulf Coast. But dozens more showed no signs of infection. NOAA's said this investigation into the dolphin tragedy continues may leave the families of dolphins unable to recover. How to Rescue Beached Dolphins relates to this tragedy in this sorry video. With 3,000 dolphins beaching themselves in Peru and thousands more suspected to be dying in the Gulf Coast, now is a good time to be monitoring the beaches for confused and disoriented dolphins.
ANALYSIS: Dolphin Die-off Multi nationally. The video below shows a dolphin rescue that occurred on a Brazilian beach last month. When I first watched this video, my whole body tensed with anxiety as the dolphins hit the breaking waves of the shore and suddenly find themselves flailing in shallow waters. You can hear their calls, high-pitched whistles and chirps, over the sound of the surf. As far as advocacy goes, this is clearly a situation that calls for immediate action. So what can we learn from this incident on the doe's and don'ts of dolphin rescue? Here's the lowdown on what to do if you see a pod swimming your way: First things first: Put someone on camera duty. Don't then ask this person to hold your shorts -- that's someone Else's job. . It's calving season, some baby dolphins will be smaller than others. But adult dolphins are much like adult humans in terms of weighting population that suffered a serious dolphin disaster swam in the Pacific off the coast of Peru.Discovery News recently reported on the thousands of dolphin corpses washing up on the tropical beaches.“The Peru mass stranding is the largest ever reported in the (Western Hemisphere) and the biggest since the mass stranding in Europe during the '90s,” Carlos Yaipen-Llanos, president and science director for Organization for Research and Conservation of Aquatic Animals (ORCA).The causes of the dolphin stranding and deaths seem to be varied as well. Unlike the fungus decimating multiple North American bat species, no single reason has been found for the dolphins' dilemma.“No common infectious disease has been identified in any of the current dolphin stranding events,” said Barclay. “Scientists are still working to understand the local and global effects of changing environmental conditions on marine mammal populations.”When these mass deaths occur, whole family groups can be wiped out, said Yaipen-Llanos. The effect on the future of the species when whole generations of dolphins are wiped out is a serious concern to dolphin research and conservationists. Ocean-going dolphins are not the only ones suffering. The Chinese river dolphin, or baiji, was declared functionally extinct in 2006 after a study couldn't find a single individual. The baiji was probably done in by a combination of problems caused by humans, including accidental deaths by getting trapped in fishing gear, vessel strikes, underwater explosions, excessive noise and depletion of prey species, according to Tim Ragen, executive director of the U.S. Marine Mammals
